Playboy Sued for Infringement Over 2 Pics

LOS ANGELES — Playboy Enterprises International has been hit with a copyright infringement suit over the alleged postings of two copyrighted photos on TheSmokingJacket.com.

The two photos, according to a suit filed by Woodland Hills, Calif.-based BWP Media USA Inc., include depictions of two celebrities: Kim Kardashian and AnnaLynne McCord.

BWP Media says it holds copyrights for the pair of photos.

The federal lawsuit is one of 62 filed against various defendants over infringement allegations in the past three months by BWP Media, which licenses its photos to online and print publications.

BWP Media describes the Kardashian pic as one where the celebrity wears a cleavage-bearing denim shirt tucked into a blue-pencil shirt as she does a bit of shopping in Miami; the McCord pic, meanwhile, shows off her bikini body as she plays volleyball with her sister in Los Angeles.

TheSmokingJacket.com is Playboy Enterprises' safe-for-work site that “provides guys with smart, snarky, and sexy distractions throughout the day."

BWP media, through its Garden City, N.Y., attorney Craig Sanders, is asking the court to award the company $300,000 plus attorneys fees and costs.
